Hire Me
I’m Chris. I’ve been shipping web apps for ten years, mostly Laravel and TypeScript, with a lot of recent work in Claude Code, MCP, and agentic systems. I contribute to Laravel core and I work hands-on as a senior or staff-level engineer.
Here are the kinds of problems I can help with.
A legacy system nobody wants to touch
If you have an old codebase that’s expensive to maintain and scary to change, I can rewrite or extract from it without losing the behavior you rely on. I’ve done this on a 16-year-old Java application at TELUS Digital, replacing it with a Dockerized Next.js app and a real test suite, and on a WordPress platform at Anywhere Brands that became a Laravel/Livewire/Vue site serving 200K monthly uniques.
Claude Code with subagent orchestration has made this kind of work dramatically more tractable than it was a year ago.
A payments integration that can’t fail
If your product takes money, I can help design the state machines, API contracts, and failure recovery paths. At Xsolla I built payment features for EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, and Roblox, processing millions of dollars in daily transactions, including the replacement gift card system after Roblox’s went down on Christmas morning.
Payments are mostly about what happens when things break. I’ve seen a lot of the ways they break.
Messy data across a lot of sources
Normalizing data from inconsistent upstream systems is a specialty. At Bankrate I built the backend for their in-house insurance agency on NestJS, which required reconciling 48 states’ worth of coverage categorization. I also kept their mortgage rate calculator running across 20+ .NET EC2 instances, a revenue path used millions of times a month and cited on CNN and Fox.
AI features you want customers to actually use
A lot of LLM work ships as a demo and never makes it to production. I can help you figure out what to ship first and where the failure modes are. At TELUS I architected agentic workflows on AWS Lambda for a call center serving 800K weekly users, where the models make real-time decisions and hand off to humans when they should.
I also run DailyBin, a small AI digest service I use to dogfood agent-to-human interfaces and end-to-end encryption with AES-256-GCM.
What I work in
I don’t take new WordPress work, but I’m happy to help migrate off it.
What I’m looking for
Senior and staff-level engineering work. Greenfield systems, legacy rewrites, payment platforms, and anything with LLMs in the loop. I’m not looking to manage a large team right now; I want to write code, make architectural decisions, and ship.
How to reach me
Email chris@arter.dev, or find me on LinkedIn or BlueSky. Tell me what’s broken or what you’re trying to build, and I’ll let you know if I’m a good fit. If I’m not, I probably know someone who is.
